A weekly reflection from the Shared Light community

Hey there,

You ever notice how life has a sense of humor? Just when you think you've got your rhythm down, the universe decides to test your flexibility. This week was a masterclass in adaptation, complete with uninvited guests, anniversary prep, and a number that made us do a double-take.

The Great Hair Investigation of 2026

So... lice. There, I said it. Our kid came home from school with some extra passengers (or the Lorax family, as my daughter calls them), and suddenly our house transformed into something between a detective agency and a hazmat operation. If you've never experienced the joy of checking every strand of hair under a magnifying glass while simultaneously washing everything you own, you're missing out on a very special kind of family bonding.

The silver lining? We now know we can handle a crisis with surprising grace and only minimal panic. Also, our laundry has never been cleaner.

Two Decades and Still Learning

While we were busy playing detective with tiny bugs, we were also finalizing details for our 20th anniversary. There's something beautifully ironic about planning a celebration while dealing with the least romantic problem imaginable. But maybe that's what 20 years together looks like, handling whatever comes your way while still making time to celebrate the journey.

We're learning that milestone moments don't wait for convenient timing. They show up when they show up, and you figure out how to honor them anyway.

The Numbers Game

Here's something that caught us completely off guard: we're about to hit 200 streams on our podcast. Two hundred! When we started recording these episodes in our bedroom, we honestly thought maybe Dustie's mom and a few friends would listen to them. The fact that nearly 200 people choose to spend part of their week with our thoughts and stories feels like a small miracle.

It's wild how numbers can surprise you. We weren't chasing this milestone; it just quietly crept up while we were busy living and sharing and connecting. Sometimes the best achievements are the ones you don't see coming.

When Life Gets in the Way of Life

We had big plans for podcast promotion this week. Social media campaigns, content creation, and all the hustle that comes with building something new. But between work deadlines, school schedules, and our unexpected houseguests, some of those plans got shelved.

Here's what we're learning: sometimes "getting in the way" is actually life happening exactly as it should. The podcast will be there tomorrow. The promotion can wait. But dealing with what's in front of you? That can't be postponed.

The Perfect Date Night (Sort Of)

In the midst of all the chaos, we caught a break when the kids went on a date with their grandma. You know what we did with our rare kid-free evening? We ordered burritos, stayed home in our comfortable clothes, and caught up on some Fortnite together.

Not exactly the romantic evening you'd see in movies, but honestly? It was perfect. Sometimes the best date nights aren't about fancy dinners or elaborate plans; they're about sitting on your couch, sharing good food, and doing something completely mindless together. Twenty years in, and we're still finding new ways to enjoy each other's company.

Small Victories and Old Friends

In the middle of everything, Dustie had some beautiful conversations with friends she'd lost touch with. You know how that goes; life gets busy, months slip by, and suddenly you realize you miss people you used to talk to regularly. There's something healing about picking up those threads again, remembering who you are through the eyes of people who've known you for years.

And I'm back to my morning workouts, which feels like reclaiming a piece of myself I didn't realize I'd misplaced. Funny how 45 minutes of movement can reset your entire perspective on the day ahead.

The Real Victory

This week reminded us that success isn't always about checking boxes or hitting targets. Sometimes it's about rolling with the punches, finding humor in the chaos, and celebrating the unexpected wins along the way.

We handled a crisis without falling apart. We're planning a celebration while juggling real life. We're building something meaningful, one conversation and one blog post at a time. And somehow, 200 people think our weekly ramblings are worth their time.

What We're Sitting With

Life doesn't ask permission before it gets complicated. This week threw us curveballs we never could have planned for, but it also delivered surprises we never could have imagined. The lice situation tested our problem-solving skills. The approaching anniversary reminded us how far we've come. The podcast milestone showed us that authentic sharing creates real connection.

Maybe that's the point, to not have everything figured out but to stay curious about what each week will teach us.

What's life teaching you about flexibility lately? What unexpected wins are you celebrating?

Thanks for being part of this wild, wonderful experiment we call community. Your engagement, your stories, and your willingness to show up with

us week after week means more than you know.

Here's to rolling with whatever comes next, JR & Dustie
