A weekly reflection from the Shared Light community
Hey friends,
It's been a couple of weeks since we last sat down with you, and I know what you're wondering. I can see it in your eyes through the screen. You're thinking, "Where have they been? What happened to JR and Dustie?"
One word: PUPPIES.

Seriously. Four tiny, chaotic, adorable bundles of pure energy have basically hijacked our lives and we're not even mad about it. Peachy's girls are growing like weeds, and honestly, watching them discover the world for the first time has been like watching life reset itself. Everything they do is new. Everything is an adventure. Everything requires constant supervision because apparently puppies have no concept of self-preservation.
They're perfect little chaos agents and we love them.
But beyond the puppy madness, life has just been... life. The good kind. The ordinary kind. The kind that sneaks up on you because you're too busy living it to notice how much it matters.
Magazine features and continuous improvement
Something pretty cool happened this past week. I got interviewed for HonestAI magazine. We talked about continuous improvement and AI, which is really at the heart of some of the work we're building and the business venture we're working toward. I can't say too much yet because the article hasn't come out, but it was fun to sit down and articulate what we're trying to do, where we're going, and why it matters.
These conversations matter because they force you to think deeply about your own vision. They make you defend your ideas. They make you sharper. And honestly, it's exciting to be part of something that feels like it could really move the needle.
Dustie's dessert takeover

Meanwhile, my wife continues her relentless pursuit of bread and dessert perfection, and I am here to report that I am suffering the consequences. In the best way possible.
Her artistry in the kitchen has reached new heights. We're talking bread that would make a French bakery jealous. We're talking desserts that should be illegal. And me? I'm just here reaping the rewards of her creativity, which apparently means my pants are getting tighter by the week.
I'm not complaining. This is a good problem to have.
Back to school, back to routines
The kids are heading back to school, and with it comes the return of routines we haven't thought about in months. Bedtimes. Homework. That Friday feeling when the weekend is finally here and you can breathe for two days.
It's not glamorous. It's not Instagram-worthy. It's just the steady rhythm of life reasserting itself. And honestly? I kind of love it. There's something comforting about knowing what's coming. About having structure. About building toward those weekends where we can all just be together without anywhere else to be.
A moment that stopped me in my tracks

But here's the part I need to talk about, even though it's harder to put into words.
This past weekend, my dad was able to get my mom's headstone. We drove up to see it, and it was beautiful. Really beautiful. The kind of beautiful that hits you in the chest because you realize this is permanent. This is real. This is where people go to remember someone they loved.
Standing there, looking at her name carved in stone, I couldn't help but think about all the things I wished I could still talk to her about. All the decisions I've made since she's been gone. All the moments where I think, "I wonder what Mom would say about this."
And here's what's been sitting with me: I find myself wondering if I did everything I could to make her proud. If I made the right decisions. If she would look at the life I'm building and feel like it was worth it.
The truth is, I'll never know for sure. And that's okay. Because what I do know is that I'm still here. I'm still trying. I'm still working toward something that matters. And the people who are still in my life, the ones I get to converse with every single day, they're reminding me what it means to show up.
Celebrating together
We were blessed to spend time with our family this weekend, celebrating birthdays. There's something about gathering together, eating cake, laughing about silly things, and just being present with the people you love that puts things in perspective.
These are the moments my mom would want me to be paying attention to. Not the worry. Not the wondering if I did enough. But the actual presence. The actual connection. The actual living.
What this week taught me
It's easy to get caught up in puppies and bread and magazine interviews and business ventures. It's easy to forget to pause and appreciate the people still here. The people we still get to argue with, laugh with, build with.
My mom isn't here to see what we're doing. But the people who are here, the ones who love us and believe in us and show up for our birthday celebrations, they're watching. They're cheering. They're part of this story.
And that's what I'm grateful for this week. Not that everything is perfect. Not that I have all the answers. But that I get to show up. That I get to keep trying. That I get to build something with the people I love while also honoring the memory of the people I've lost.
That's the whole thing right there.
Questions for you:
Who are the people in your life that make you want to be better? How do you honor the memory of those who are gone while celebrating the people who are still here?
Thank you for sticking with us through the puppy chaos, for celebrating our wins with us, and for being part of a community that understands that life is about showing up, staying connected, and making space for both the joy and the heartache.
Here's to Peachy's four beautiful girls, to Dustie's endless culinary creations, to magazine features and business dreams, to the people we get to celebrate with, and to the memory of the ones we wish could still be here.
With grateful hearts and a deeper appreciation for the people in our lives, JR & Dustie
