A weekly reflection from the Shared Light community
Hey friends,
Some weeks aren't marked by dramatic events or major milestones. This was one of those weeks where life felt like finding your footing on shifting ground, learning new rhythms while managing the steady hum of everyday challenges.
Back to the Books
I started classes for my summer term this past Monday, which means diving headfirst into a new academic rhythm while juggling everything else life throws at us. There's something both exciting and overwhelming about beginning a new semester, especially when you're this close to the finish line of graduation in December.
Most of the week for me was about learning the rhythm of these new classes, figuring out how to fit studying and assignments into an already packed schedule. It's like learning a new dance while the music is already playing, but I'm getting the hang of it step by step.
Work Stress and Team Challenges
Work has been a little stressful lately. We've been busy, and that level of activity creates a ripple effect of stress for my guys, which inevitably leads to a lot of overtime for the teams I manage. There's something challenging about watching people you care about work harder because the demands have increased, knowing that their stress becomes part of your responsibility as their leader.
It's one of those situations where you're trying to balance business needs with taking care of your people, and sometimes those two things feel like they're pulling in different directions.

End of School Year Navigation
Dustie and the girls have been trying to navigate some of the end-of-school-year events for our oldest. You know how it is in May, when suddenly every week brings another concert, ceremony, or celebration that requires coordination and presence. It's a beautiful time of year, but it can also feel overwhelming when you're trying to be everywhere at once.
Worry and Watching
Our youngest still isn't acting like herself, and we're both pretty worried about it. There's nothing quite like the helpless feeling of watching your child struggle and not being able to fix it immediately. It's the kind of worry that sits in the background of everything else you're doing, coloring even the mundane moments with concern.

This worry also causes Dustie to struggle from time to time, which makes sense. When you're a parent, your child's pain becomes your pain, and watching someone you love hurt while feeling powerless to make it better is one of the hardest parts of loving deeply.
Moving Forward with Faith
Despite the challenges, we're continuing to move forward. We're holding onto the belief that everything is temporary and that the universe places us right where we need to be to learn what we need to learn. It's not always easy to trust this process, especially when you're in the middle of difficult circumstances, but we're choosing to believe that there's purpose in the struggle.
Sometimes faith isn't about having all the answers. Sometimes it's about taking the next step even when you can't see the whole staircase.
What We're Learning About Seasons
This week reminded us that life moves in seasons, and not all of them are meant to be dramatic or eventful. Some weeks are about quietly adjusting to new rhythms, managing stress, and showing up for the people you love even when you're worried about them.
We're learning that supporting each other through the uneventful weeks is just as important as celebrating the big moments. That sometimes love looks like sitting with worry together, like taking on extra overtime to support your team, like finding new study rhythms while everything else keeps moving.

The Strength in Ordinary Moments
There's something to be said for weeks that don't make headlines but require steady presence and quiet resilience. For learning new class schedules while managing work stress. For navigating school events while worrying about your child. For trusting that you're exactly where you need to be, even when where you are feels uncertain.
What We're Carrying Forward
We're grateful for new learning opportunities and the chance to keep moving toward graduation. We're thankful for teams that work hard, even when the demands are high. We're holding space for worry while also holding onto hope that our youngest will find her way back to herself.
Most importantly, we're trusting that this season, like all seasons, has something to teach us about resilience, faith, and the power of showing up for each other when life feels ordinary and challenging at the same time.
How do you find meaning in the uneventful weeks? What helps you trust the process when you can't see the bigger picture?
Thank you for being part of a community that understands that not every week needs to be extraordinary to be meaningful and that sometimes the most important work happens in the quiet moments between the big events.
Here's to new rhythms, steady presence, and trusting that we're exactly where we need to be.
With quiet faith, JR & Dustie
