This Week's Light: Milestones, Mishaps, and Mowing (The Eternal Struggle)

Back to our normal schedule this week, and what a week it's been! From bathroom disasters to birthday celebrations, podcast milestones to family scares, this week reminded us that life is beautifully unpredictable and sometimes hilariously frustrating.

Building Dreams, One Slow Step at a Time

Dustie has been exploring job options and trying to start pushing our services to potential clients. It's a slow process, the kind that tests your patience and faith in equal measure. There's something both exciting and nerve-wracking about putting yourself out there, about believing in what you have to offer while waiting for the right opportunities to align.

Meanwhile, I continue to focus on being the best I can while making sure I'm evaluating what the best move is for our family and my career long term. It's that constant balancing act of being present in your current role while keeping an eye on future possibilities.

The Great Shower Disaster of Tuesday

Here's a funny story that was decidedly not funny when it happened: I fell getting into the shower on Tuesday. It was simultaneously scary, made me incredibly angry, embarrassed me beyond belief, and resulted in my foot putting a hole in the tub. So now I have to figure out what I'm going to do to fix that particular home improvement project I never planned on.

It took me days to recover from the fall, but luckily I wasn't hurt worse than some bruises and wounded pride. There's nothing quite like a bathroom mishap to remind you that dignity is a fragile thing and that shower safety is apparently more important than I previously realized.

A Reminder That Life Can Change in an Instant

On a much more serious note, we got a call late Wednesday that our niece had taken a pretty substantial fall from the top of a tree she was climbing. While kids will be kids, she did hurt herself by breaking her leg in a couple of places and getting a lot of scrapes and bruises.

She's recovering, but it's a stark reminder that life can take an unexpected turn on any given day. It was scary to think about all the things that could have gone wrong, and it serves as a constant reminder that there are things out there looking over us when we don't even think about them. Sometimes the difference between a close call and a tragedy is nothing more than grace we don't deserve but receive anyway.

Self-Care and Work Balance

Thursday was just a day for Dustie to focus on self-care, which she absolutely deserved and needed. Meanwhile, I was a little busier than usual at work, but that's the beauty of partnership – when one person needs to step back, the other can step up.

Celebrating Major Milestones

Here's some exciting news: we hit a milestone of our 20th episode for the podcast and simultaneously reached 500 listens! When we started this journey, we honestly never imagined we'd reach numbers like these. It feels surreal and humbling at the same time.

We plan to give back to celebrate these milestones, so be on the lookout in the coming days for an exciting announcement. We're genuinely grateful for every single person who has chosen to spend time with us, whether you've been here since episode one or

just discovered us yesterday.

Company BBQ and Family Time

Friday brought my company's yearly summer BBQ for the employees. This year didn't involve me cooking, so I had a great chance to converse and spend time with my family while enjoying the weather. There's something relaxing about being at a work event where your only job is to show up and enjoy yourself.

After the BBQ, we decided to celebrate Dustie's birthday early and enjoyed some Hawaiian food before participating as a family in an end-of-season Fortnite event. It's become our weird family tradition, and honestly, there's something beautiful about shared virtual victories.

Celebrating My Greatest Blessing

Saturday was Dustie's birthday, and she is absolutely my favorite person on this planet. We kept it low-key because that's how she likes it – no fuss, just quality time with the people she loves most.

We ended up going to her parents' house to spend a few hours and have some absolutely delicious cake. Dustie is my greatest blessing and my light always. Watching her laugh with her family, seeing her relaxed and happy on her special day – these are the moments that remind me how lucky I am to share life with someone so incredible.

After we came home and just relaxed together, which was the perfect end to her perfect day.

Sunday Reality: The Lawn Mowing Torture

Today it's back to our regular commitment of blogs, working on our business, recording content, and household chores. And by household chores, I mean the weekly torture session also known as mowing the lawn.

I swear, mowing the lawn is like some form of cruel and unusual punishment that I can't avoid. It's hot, it's loud, it's repetitive, and no matter how perfectly you cut it, the grass has the audacity to grow back and mock your efforts within days.

I spend the entire time pushing this machine around, sweating profusely, and wondering why anyone thought suburban lawn maintenance was a good idea. "Let's take this perfectly functional ecosystem and force it into neat, uniform rows that require constant maintenance!" said someone who clearly never had to do the actual mowing.

The worst part is that I know it needs to be done, so I can't even properly complain about it without sounding like I'm shirking responsibility. But honestly, if someone invented a way to make grass grow in neat, pre-trimmed patterns, I'd be their first customer.

What We're Carrying Forward

This week reminded us that life is full of unexpected moments – some scary, some embarrassing, some absolutely worth celebrating. We're grateful for milestones reached, birthdays celebrated, and family members who are healing. We're thankful for slow progress on dreams and for partners who make even the ordinary days feel special.

Most importantly, we're holding onto the truth that every day we get to build something together – whether it's a business, a podcast, or just a life filled with love and laughter – is a gift worth celebrating.
