A weekly reflection from the Shared Light community
Hey friends,

It's been two weeks since our last post, and today is Father's Day. We want to wish all the dads out there an amazing day and hope it was truly special for each of you. Whether you're celebrating with little ones, grown children, or honoring the father figures who shaped your life, today is about recognizing the incredible impact fathers have on the people they love.
When You Need to Hit Pause
The reason it's been two weeks is that I took last weekend off to try and reset from a lot of personal stress that had been building up. Sometimes life demands more than you feel capable of giving, and the healthiest thing you can do is step back and recharge.

I spent that weekend with the girls playing Fortnite and just being present with my family, remembering that even though sometimes things get hard, you need to count your blessings. There's something powerful about choosing to focus on what's right in front of you when everything else feels overwhelming.
The Grind and the Grace
It's been a grind keeping motivated lately, and I've been pushing through as best as I can. Some seasons of life require more grit than others, and this has been one of those times where you have to dig deep to find the energy to keep moving forward.

But in the middle of the struggle, there have been beautiful moments of grace that remind you why you keep going.
The Great Family Baking Expansion
Dustie and the girls have expanded from bread making and are now really into baking everything under the sun. They've made sticky buns, s'more cookies, cakes, jello, and everything else that's keeping me feeling wonderfully fluffy.
Our kitchen has become this constant source of amazing smells and even better treats. I'm not complaining about the extra pounds I'm carrying – when your family is creating edible masterpieces on a regular basis, you embrace your role as the official taste tester. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it, right?
Podcast Evolution and New Rhythms
In other news, we decided to move some things around with our podcast, and it's now going to be coming out on Mondays. This helps us utilize our time a little better, and we hope that after 20 episodes, our message is clear to our listeners.
We'll also be talking about other topics related to our core message, expanding the conversations while staying true to what we're all about. Sometimes growth means adjusting your approach while keeping your foundation solid.

Celebrating Milestones and New Chapters
Over the past two weeks, we've been incredibly busy with some beautiful celebrations. Dustie's mom officially retired and had a birthday. She's absolutely amazing and deserves to rest after a long, successful career. There's something special about watching someone you love transition into a new chapter of life, especially when they've earned every moment of the peace that comes with retirement.

Academic Challenges and Perseverance
I've been keeping up with homework, but the classes I'm taking have been really intense and difficult to get the right cadence on. Some subjects just demand more from you than others, and finding your rhythm with challenging material takes time and patience with yourself.
It's a reminder that growth isn't always comfortable, and sometimes the most valuable learning happens when you're struggling to keep up.

The Slow Return to Joy
The girls are both doing amazing, and our little one is slowly getting back to normal thanks to Grandma, her sister, and her mom. It's been beautiful to watch the healing process, to see how love from multiple sources can help someone find their way back to themselves.
She even had some time to talk to me the other morning, which was honestly the highlight of my day. Those moments when your child chooses to open up, to share what's on their heart, to connect with you in a real way – those are the moments that make everything else worth it.
The Permission to Pause
We know it's been a couple of weeks since our last post, but we want to remind everyone that it's okay to have personal days for your sanity and mental health. Taking breaks isn't giving up; it's taking care of yourself so you can show up better for the people who need you.

In a culture that glorifies constant productivity, choosing to rest when you need it is actually a radical act of self-care. Your mental health matters, your peace matters, and sometimes the most productive thing you can do is absolutely nothing.
Father's Day Reflections

On this Father's Day, I'm thinking about what it means to be a dad in the middle of life's challenges. It's about showing up even when you're tired, being present even when you're stressed, and creating space for connection even when everything else feels chaotic.
It's about playing Fortnite on the weekends when you need to reset, celebrating your daughter's willingness to talk to you on a random morning, and being the official taste tester for your family's baking adventures.
Being a father isn't about being perfect – it's about being present, being real, and being willing to keep learning how to love better every single day.
What We're Carrying Forward

We're grateful for the permission to take breaks when we need them, for family members who support healing, and for the simple joy of homemade treats and quality time. We're thankful for new rhythms that serve us better and for the courage to keep pushing through when things get difficult.
Most importantly, we're holding onto the truth that it's okay to not be okay sometimes, and that taking care of your mental health isn't selfish – it's necessary.
How do you give yourself permission to rest when you need it? What helps you remember to count your blessings during difficult seasons?

Thank you for understanding when we need to step back, for celebrating the fathers in your life today, and for being part of a community that values both authenticity and
mental health.
Here's to Father's Day, family baking adventures, and the courage to take breaks when you need them.
With grateful hearts and flour-dusted counters, JR & Dustie
